Luis Torres Jarquín

Luis Torres Jarquín, also known as Luis Torres, is a Mexican composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. His work explores the relationships between harmony, timbre and instrumental resonance, both through acoustic writing and live electronics. His music has been performed by members of Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Cairn, Ensemble CEPROMUSIC, Explore Ensemble, the Fidelio Trio and Altera Inde Duo, among others. Recent highlights include Xtasis (2025) at IRCAM’s Espace de projection in Paris, Crack (2026) at ZKM’s next_generation XI festival in Karlsruhe, and a premiere by Klangforum Wien musicians at Open Music in Graz.

He holds master’s degrees in composition, both awarded with distinction, from the Royal College of Music (RCM), London, where he studied with Dai Fujikura and Kenneth Hesketh, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he studied with Beat Furrer and Franck Bedrossian.

He also holds a master’s degree in Computer Music and Sound Art from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, undertaken at its Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics IEM, Graz, and completed the IRCAM Cursus in Composition and Computer Music in Paris (2024–2025). His further studies include work with Heinz Holliger and Dieter Ammann at the Lucerne Academy of Contemporary Music.​
